Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes painful lumps, abscesses and scarring in areas like the underarms, groin and under the breasts. Often misdiagnosed, especially in early stages, HS disproportionately affects Black women. Early recognition, compassionate care and inclusive dermatology are essential for improving outcomes and reducing stigma.

Rosacea in skin of colour is often overlooked and underdiagnosed due to subtle symptoms that differ from those in lighter skin tones. Flushing may appear as warmth or darkening rather than redness, leading to misdiagnosis. Recognising these differences is crucial for effective treatment and inclusive skincare. With increased awareness and representation, practitioners can better identify and manage rosacea in diverse skin types, ensuring accurate care for every client.
