Botulism cases linked to unlicensed toxin treatments trigger criminal inquiry
The MHRA has launched criminal investigations after 41 botulism cases in England were linked to unlicensed toxin treatments. Illegal products, often sourced from South Korea, are being used in unsafe, unregulated settings such as homes and salons. Authorities warn offenders face prison and heavy fines, while stressing that botulinum toxin should only be prescribed and administered by qualified healthcare professionals.
